Spreading their wings

Who remembers these?  Anyone?

It seems like just the other day I went out to the barn to take care of the chickens and ducks, when a Mama Robin started attacking my head.  I knew right away there must be a nest close by.  With a little help from Matt I found it.  I love bird nests so I began waiting for these little eggs to hatch.

Then I forgot all about them...

And yesterday when I went back into the barn I saw two black things scurry away.  I immediately thought "EWW rats!"  I quickly realized however;  they were robins that had escaped their nest but could not yet fly.  I giggled and went about my chores.

Little did I know, Wes had also found a little Robin outside, hiding in the tall grass along the barn.  He actually caught the little guy before I realized what he was doing.  He was very proud of himself.  I told him he had to let the baby go and to my surprise, he did so without one complaint.

Mama Robin was angrily yelling at us from her perch on the Pear tree so Wes and I packed up and left them alone.  I did watch to make sure Mama found and fed her baby.   I am amazed at how fast they went from pretty little blue eggs to ugly evil scientist looks Robins.  :)
