It's fall again!

Fall is a favorite time of the year for me.  I love the crispness of the air, the colors, the smells, the food, I just love fall.

My photos do not do this place justice.

I love living in such a beautiful area.

The colors are just starting to change.  They start sooner in the hedge rows and then the woods and mountains go next.  I always wait too long to start taking fall photos so when Matt suggested that we drive around on his family's land I was very excited to get a head start on taking photos.

I can't wait to go back and take some family photos!!

Gorgeous right?!  And like I said these photos really do not capture it's true beauty.

All the colors will start popping out fast now that our nights are becoming so chilly.

This last photo is from our back field.  I really wanted those cows tiny black dots to be closer, either way this is one of my favorite views from our house.
I am so excited for fall!

Outside with Charlie

Charlie just loves to be outside!

He just wanders around playing by myself, dragging buckets pull of whatever he finds interesting, pushing anything with wheels and most recently he has discovered our teeter totter.

He's in love!

I will let him sit on it and push him up and down.  Sometimes we do this with no one on the other end and other times he has a play mate, he doesn't seem to care whether or not he has a companion when it comes to playing on the teeter totter.

He is also fascinated in raising it up and down on his own.

It really must be fascinating!  He just giggles and giggles every time he lets it drop back down.

On a totally unrelated side note, I just love his hair!

One more thing that Charlie LOVES to do outside is drive the tractor.  He has watched us do this often enough that he goes through all the steps just like he really is driving.

Climb up and turn key on.

Reach down and shift it into gear.

Look both ways.

Check yard for stray poultry.

And go!

Just a normal day

We are working into a new normal with Wes in school and myself working more.  Weekends however are the safe old normal that we have always loved.  I love being together as a complete family and playing outside with all three kids.

This past weekend we found frogs living under our duck pool.  Wes and I caught them and put them in a bucket for the little two to look at.

Felicity isn't a fan of holding the frogs but she giggled and jumped as she "pet" them.  If they jumped she jumped and squealed.

Charlie was very fast to try to grab our new friends.  In the end we decided that we needed to let them go sooner rather than later so prevent any sudden deaths by a grabby toddler.

Later Grampa and Grandma stopped by to pick up the wagon full of hay that was still in our back yard and gave us a couple of tomatoes.  Felicity who doesn't like tomatoes asked as sweetly as she could if she could keep and save a tomato.  Grandma said yes and Felicity hugged and snuggled her tomato.  She was so happy with her "cute yittle tomato".

Then it was off to the playset.  All three kids love to case and raise each other to the top of the slide.  Sometimes they use the ladders and other times they just go up the slide.

When they take the slide they often end up in a tangled mess of arms and legs at the bottom of the slide.

After fun on the slide Felicity and Wes ran off to find Daddy and Charlie and I had a little alone time on the swings.

He loves to be able to swing like the big kids.  I taught him to lay on his belly because sitting up just makes me too nervous and he doesn't like that I had to hold on to him that way.  He loves his independence and swings this way most often.  That is when the other children aren't already taking up the two swings.

He can even push himself this way.  It makes a very independent baby happy.

We played together another couple of minutes before it was time to start dinner.   It was a good day.

Hay

This past week Matt's parents mowed down and baled the second cutting behind our house.  It is always a very exciting time for the kids when they get to help out with the hay.  Wes goes with Matt most Saturdays to help with farm work but Felicity rarely gets the opportunity to help out.

She and Grandma walked around tossing small loose piles of hay into the rows waiting to be baled.

This is one of the reasons that I like living close to Matt's family.  I really enjoy the closeness that the kids can have and all the memories that they build.

Wes got a promotion this year!  He was able to drive the little tractor and wagon around the fields, pick up dropped bales and bring them  back to us.  I wasn't sure he would be able to pick up the bales and put them in the wagon by himself but he proved me wrong.

Back and forth he went bringing back bales with a huge smile on his face.  The first time I removed a bale for him he exclaimed, "Great job mom!  You just did your first bale!!"  He was so proud.

Charlie and I hung out by the pile of loose bales while everyone else worked away.

Grampa took a milk break with Charlie.

I used to help out some with hay but haven't really done any in years.  I got promoted as well to official baby keeper.

I love my new job!

As the sun sank lower in the sky everyone hurried to finish up.

It is most likely the last hay of the season that the kids will be helping with.  Wes will get to help load the tractor trailers with hay during the winter months but that isn't nearly as pleasant as working outside in the golden sunlight.

Who knows maybe next year Charlie will be helping!

My Sunshine

Charlie is growing and learning at rates that seem to be much faster than my first two children.  This past year has flown by at speeds that I did not expect.  I know my kids grow up way too fast but even knowing that I was not prepared for how quickly my baby would turn into a toddler.

A few short days after turning 10 months he was walking across the living room, by 11 months he never crawled anymore.

Charlie loves to eat.  If you are eating he better be eating as well or he'll grunt and beg.  He was never a big fan of jarred or homemade baby food, by the time his birthday rolled around he rarely ate any of it anymore.  He does like the little pouches of food and we still use them for when we are out and about or just need a quick snack.

Little words are popping up.  He is great for repeating something and not saying it again for a while.  He can be nearly as stubborn as his sister when it comes to showing off his newly learned speaking skills.  Ask him to repeat a word that he says on a regular basis and you get nothing.  He says what he wants when he wants and that's it.

Some of the words that he will say are Dada, Mama, Es (wes), aSiii (outside), ni ni (to Daddy every night when I carry him to bed), up, down, sit, bye, hi, wow, wee (on the slide and swing), no, hot and panu (Peanut).  There has been other words that he will say once and not again for a while.  Matt and I are both certain we have heard him say tractor when he points to them in the back yard but it is not a common word yet.

One thing he does that I absolutely LOVE is if you tell him "I love you" he will start making kissing sounds at you.  I need to capture this on video so I will never forget how sweet it is!

Charlie loves to be outside.  He will walk around pushing his toy lawn mower or smalls push cars for long periods of time.  I am very impressed how he is able to maneuver them and turn them so they don't run into other things in the lawn.  He often carries the lawn mower up the porch steps in an attempt to convince me that it should come inside.

His little hands can now reach items on the table and counter tops.  Not much is safe.  He has even pushed a chair over to the counter to get something that he wanted that was just out of his reach.  He climbs on everything.  Going up and down the stairs are not a problem for this little mountain goat.  He has the sure footedness (pretty sure that's not a real word) that his brother and father have.  If Wesley can do something, Charlie thinks he can too and will try his hardest to do it.

He is a sweet happy blue eyed boy but as a friend recently explained so well, "he is so happy but he is just waiting for someone to tick him off."  It is so true.  My happy go lucky little dude has a nasty temper.  When something doesn't go according to his plan or doesn't happen as easily as he would like, his ugly shrieking side comes out.   It's not pretty or quiet.  We are working on it but I am pretty sure it will be a life long battle.

There is just something so special about this boy.  From the way his hair flips out over his ears to the way he runs after the chickens to how he falls to sleep in my arms, Charlie is my very favorite Charlie in the whole wide world!
